DSW Comes Through

fun_uncle and I went shopping at DSW yesterday. We each bought 2 pairs of shoes, and used the 10% off coupon, of course. I'm pleased to report that DSW applied the discounts in the most optimal way:

First, they applied the 30% off discount (clearance)
Second, they applied the 10% off coupon
Third, they applied the $25 off coupon that I had.

Kudos to DSW!

You are correct. Percentage discounts are a form of multiplication (e.g. 10% of 100 is the same as .1 * 100). Since x*y = y*x, the order in which percentage discounts are applied does not matter. The net discount in always 1-(1-x%)*(1-y%), or in this case, 1-(90%*70%)=37%.
