I've updated the PDP thread to include a new online printer, PhotoCheap (as low as 12¢ per print, plus a flat shipping charge of $.99 (waived for first order)), but their quality is rumored to be questionable, though I haven't personally tried them.

Printing Digital Pictures

With the advent of the Digital Camera comes the "problem" of printing the pictures.

The great thing about digicams is you can take as many pictures as you want, for virtually no cost (other than battery usage and initial purchase of digital "film"). However, this leads to a problem - lots and lots of pictures.

There are 3 main choices:

1) Online Printing (Advantages: High quality, low cost*. Drawback: Slow turnaround)
-A site that reviews: Dotphoto, Ofoto, RitzCamera, Shutterfly, Snapfish, Walmart, Winkflash
-WinkFlash 18¢ per print, plus a flat shipping charge of $.99 (waived during the summer)
-BonusPrint 17¢ per print, plus a flat shipping charge of $2.99 (money back guarantee, including shipping)
-Ofoto 29¢ per print, variable shipping (Coupon Code: JUNE20 - 20% off $10+ order, exp 6/22/04)

2) B&M printing
-Target does them for $.25

Anyone have any better/cheaper printing thoughts?

One issue that exists no matter what is the difference between "digital sizes" and "conventional sizes." In general, one usually has 4 choices:

1) Digital paper, get prints that are 4x5.33
2) Conventional paper, get images that are 4x5.33 on 4x6 paper (white borders on the edges)
3) Conventional paper, get cropped pictures (lose part of the top and bottom of the pictures) This is recommended for pictures meant to be framed, and is the default (and sometimes only option) at B&M stores.
4) Conventional paper, scaled pictures. In cases where you want to frame the picture, but don't want to crop, you can sometimes get away with stretching the pictures to fill the space. Depending on the image, the impact can be minimal.
